Global Mission Report (Fall 2012)

This year was a critical one for the Keystone Project as we continued to train and coach indigenous missionary leaders in the nations. We were able to penetrate several previously unreached people groups in Ethiopia, extend the mission to the difficult state of Bihar in India with the training and development of missionaries there, and see the work expand in Bhutan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, and a new outreach in Angola. The Keystone Project Houston Team has made great progress this year as they have solidified their outreach in Sharpstown. The Keystone Project Hawaii Team recently reported 40 new conversions. We have also maintained a training profile among Hispanics in the US through our work in Puerto Rico, Houston (the Missionary Church Texas District), and Los Angeles.

It is difficult for us to secure numbers for the many movements we have in the nations. The extent of the work makes it impossible for us to maintain the level of quality apostolic coaching and strategic investigation needed to fully lead these movements and report on their impact. Please see the attached list of the number of countries with Keystone Project trained leaders and an overview of some of the known movements among them. Joseph Emmanuel, one of our leaders in India, records the following from the work in Bihar:

  • Accepted the Lord Jesus Christ – 2200
  • Disciples Made – 651
  • First Generation disciples – 155
  • Second Generation disciples – 212
  • Third Generation disciples – 141
  • Fourth Generation disciples 551

One thing I want to note is the prevalence of signs and wonders in our work among Muslims. In Luke 7, when Jesus performed the miracle of raising the widow’s son in the city of Nain, it says the people glorified God, saying, “…God has visited His people!” In the same chapter, John the Baptist sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus if He was indeed the Messiah. Jesus answered their doubts with miracles (Luke 7:22). I am convinced that when God’s people are on God’s mission miracles will happen. Signs and wonders confirm God’s word, glorify the Father, reveal Jesus Christ, manifest the presence of the Holy Spirit, meet the needs of people, and can transform entire villages. I have personally witnessed and been a part of many supernatural acts of the Holy Spirit, and I receive regular reports of miraculous events from the leaders we have trained. Let me share a couple of recent ones with you.

The first one comes from Ethiopia where we have many national missionaries working in unreached villages and among unreached people groups. The disciples there wrote: “In the village of Ejere, 15 disciples, after having a fasting and prayer time, went to witness the Gospel to the village witchdoctor. The witchdoctor became very angry and insulted and bullied them and sent them out of his home. But the disciples replied, ‘May the Lord answer you with fire!’ At that moment a bolt of lightening with the sound of thunder dropped over his home in the form of fire and his house burnt. As a result of this, 34 people believed in Jesus Christ. Out of these people, one is the witchdoctor’s son.”

The second report also comes from Ethiopia and involves an outreach to the Muslim Berta people. “During the month of July, Evangelist Tesfa Dinega, Keystone Project Berta area coordinator made Gospel outreaches for three days and witnessed to 34 people of that area. As a result, a woman was delivered from a demon while another woman whose right hand had been crippled was healed. Having seen this great miracle, 6 people received Jesus as their personal savior. The big surprise of this miracle is that the community is Muslim black Arabs. Following this, the Muslim community rebelled against these 6 born again people and imprisoned them. However, the evangelist, having strongly advocated in front of the court, freed them.” I have received many other reports of miracles taking place as we bring the Gospel to the Berta people. These miracles have resulted in hundreds of Berta receiving Christ, including sheiks (Muslim leaders).

In addition to our global work, we assumed operational management of the Rushmore Express Inn & Suites. With very little business experience we guided the hotel through a profitable season, set in place the foundational DNA of a growing redemptive community in Keystone, and pay the taxes on the Keystone Project Ministry center. I am deeply thankful to our management team (Rick Greene, Stuart Ortmann, Stanley Ortmann, and Justin Romine) for their hard work, excellent team spirit, and deep faith in what we are doing. The entire Rushmore Express staff was an example of how a redemptive community of committed disciples can fulfill the mission of the Great Commission together, even as they conduct that mission in the context of business.
